About Us

Christopher J. Moreland has spent his entire career in higher education and has dedicated his life to holistic student well-being. With his background in teaching, advising, administration and accreditation there are few aspects of university life he hasn’t experienced. A dedicated professional renowned for blending empathy with pragmatism, Chris seamlessly combines compassion with a sharp problem-solving mindset. Guided by his unwavering belief in the inherent dignity of every individual, he tailors his approach to meet the unique needs of those he serves, ensuring personalized and effective support. While acknowledging the challenges and frustrations that define modern academic life, Chris remains steadfast in his conviction that higher education is a cornerstone of a meaningful and fulfilling existence. His expertise spans a wide range of areas, including major and career consultations, personality and professional assessments, and guiding informed decision-making, all delivered with insight and precision.

His Story

Chris is a native of Wilmington, North Carolina, and graduated from Cape Fear Academy. He received a BA in History and Religion from UNCW, a MA in History from UNCW and pursued doctoral work at the Graduate Theological Union. He has served the department of Philosophy and Religion at UNCW since 2016 as part-time faculty and as a full-time academic advisor in the Center for Academic Advising from 2020 to 2025. In the past he has worked as a teaching assistant, research assistant, grant writer, executive secretary, and program/office manager for the Center for Jewish Studies under Drs. Naomi Seidman and Deena Aranoff. He also served as an instructor,  interim academic dean, and program coordinator of the Diocese of Oakland’s School for Pastoral Ministry for four years with Dr. Margaret Turek. During his career he has served on the GTU's Board of Trustees, accreditation panels, and various committees related to student well-being. He also had the unique privilege of working as a sacramental consultant on the 2013 horror film, The Conjuring under the aegis of his mentor Dr. Diana Walsh (Heath) Pasulka.
